This site consists of tidbits and info I’ve gathered over the many months I’ve played “SPELL SQUAD” on Winster.com. These are my own personal suggestions and are not affiliated or endorsed by Winster.com. I just want everyone to get the most out of the game and enjoy!
Spell Squad is a simple game and once you get the hang of it you’ll want to play all day. There are a few minor rules and some suggestions for playing a “fair game”.
Length of words you can make are: *Three letter words go on the top row. *Four letter words go on the middle row. *Five letter words go on the bottom row. *Seven letter words go on the top 2 rows. *Nine letter words go on the bottom 2 rows. *Twelve letter words fill all three rows.
NO, sorry but you can not make 6-8-10 or 11 letter words. You just can’t. That’s not the way the game works. I don’t make the rules folks.
The green underlines on the tiles let you know the longest word you can make with the letters you have. What word? That’s for you to figure out. They come in real handy when you have all consonants. Nine out of ten times you can make a “Winnie word” using 3 or 4 letters. This gives you space to spin. A “Winnie word” is just a term a lot of people use in the game for the odd words Winster accepts.
You get a specific amount of spins per day depending on your level of membership. Your spins roll over to the next day and you can accumulate up to 10 times your spins in your account. So, if your at a 300 per day spin membership you can build your account to 3000. NOW, you must log in each day to get your spins even if your not going to play that day!!!
****Very Important****
**Fill your board before you make a word**
You will have a much better chance of making at least a five letter word and it gives you something to trade with. A full board means you have more letters available to help others and to help yourself.
**Fill your board before you try to trade**
You may spin the letters you need for yourself! Other players tend to get a little edgy if you spin a U, N and I, decide you are going for Universities and try to trade for the remaining nine letters. This game is all about helping each other out however, no one likes to be taken advantage of. Be courteous of other people’s boards as well. If you need an E but it’s someone’s only vowel, DON’T even ask. Wait a minute and maybe you will have a chance to trade. If you have a lot of vowels and you notice someone with a lot of consonants ask if they would like to trade to mix your boards up and give you both a better chance at making a larger word.
Just remember, if you always say no and are unwilling to trade you can’t complain when people turn down your requests. We have to work together to get the most benefit out of the game.
Don’t get so caught up on making one set word that you start losing points. Go with the flow. Change that word and move on.
Watch 7-9-12 letter compound words. An example would be: outcast. Winnie will take out and cast as stand alone words. You have to set your board up so your last move “makes” the word. One way to handle this word would be: oua on top row, ctst on middle row, switch top row a for middle row t (first t) to form the word outcast. This is one of the trickiest parts of the game but it keeps it interesting.
*DON’T SPIN LETTERS AWAY IF YOU CAN HELP IT*
Why waste them, usually there is someone in the room who has limited spins and will appreciate any and all letters they can get. You will find in the end that the more you give the more you get. That is why I say it is a “pay it forward” gaming site. If you can’t find a letter you need by trading make sure no one in the room needs the extra letter before spinning away (only spin them away if absolutely necessary!!) Also when trading you may not always need the letter someone is offering but remember, you may need them to help you later on.
**Super Tip**
There is a site a lot of people use to help make words. The site is: www.anagrammer.com. You open anagrammer in a separate browser and keep it open with your spell squad game. Fill your board. Go to the anagrammer site and put in all your letters. Anagrammer or “Annie” as a lot of us call it will spit out a list of words you can make. You can add up to 3 question marks to the search box and it will give you longer words. The letters in bold are the letters you need to complete that word.
**Making the most points** You make the most points doing 7 and 9 letter words. You have a lot more turn over and less letter waste. Some people get hung up on only doing 12 letter words and if you watch they end up giving away or spinning away LOTS of letters doing so. I can usually complete 3 to 5 words (or more!) before they complete the one 12 letter word they are stuck on. I’m not saying 12 letter words are bad; I just choose not to go for them unless I’m a letter or two away from making it.
**Pointers**
*A three letter word is better than no word at all, use them don’t waste them. The points all add up.
*Trade with others. Remember Winster is all about people helping people make the most out of the game.
*Give letters you can’t use to people with empty spaces. The more you give the more people will want to help you when you need it.
*If you are working on a 9 letter word, make 3 letter words on the unused row.
*If you are using anagrammer and give away or use up a few of your letters while going for a bigger word; put your new letters in anagrammer. You may have a big word with the new letters. Again, don’t get so committed to one certain word that you lose points trying to make it.
*If you prefer not to chat or trade consider taking your game to a private room. That way no one will bother you and you won’t offend people trying to trade. Next time you play you may feel like chatting or trading and people will remember if you always say no or appear rude.
*Don’t be afraid to ask for help. We are all here for the same reason and most people love to lend a hand.
*HAVE FUN AND REMEMBER IT’S JUST A GAME!!!
